People who are “unconsciously incompetent” don’t know they’re incompetent—they know so little about the subject that they can’t fully appreciate how little they actually know. That’s why every barber and taxi driver you meet is an expert on the economy and international politics.

Josh, Kaufman –  The Personal MBA

How we feel is, in large part, determined by how we think we feel.

David J Schwartz – The Magic of Thinking Big

It’s intellectual hubris to think that with a few minutes of googling our opinions are on par with people who have spent their lives in a domain. And yet we’ve been taught that we are entitled to our own opinion and that it deserves equal weighting. Sure you hold your own opinion, but it doesn’t deserve equal weighting.

Distrust of Intellectual Authority

Freedom is the only worthy goal in life. It is won by disregarding things that lie beyond our control.

Épictète

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.

Reinhold Niebuhr

We inhabit time as fish live in water.

Carlo Rovelli – The Order of Time

It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.

Confucius

You cannot overestimate the unimportance of practically everything.

John Maxwell

To get the right things done, choosing what to ignore is as important as choosing where to focus.

Peter Bregman

1–1+1–1+1–1 ⋯ = 1/2

A = 1–1+1–1+1–1⋯

1-A=1-(1–1+1–1+1–1⋯)

1-A=1–1+1–1+1–1+1⋯

1-A =A

1-A+A=A+A

1 = 2A

1/2 = A

Being humble, here, means being aware of how difficult your instincts can make it to get the facts right. It means being realistic about the extent of your knowledge. It means being happy to say “I don’t know.” It also means, when you do have an opinion, being prepared to change it when you discover new facts. It is quite relaxing being humble, because it means you can stop feeling pressured to have a view about everything, and stop feeling you must be ready to defend your views all the time.
